Ask about the room you will actually receive

“Accessible room” can describe different layouts and features. Ask the property to identify the particular room type and confirm which features belong to it. A photograph of another accessible room in the building might not represent the room reserved for you.

Explain the features essential to your stay and ask whether they can be confirmed as part of the booking. Clarify what happens if the property needs to change your room. Keep the reply with your reservation so you can refer to it before arrival.

Arrival and movement

  • Is there a step-free route from the drop-off or parking area to reception and the room?
  • Are lifts on that route, and what are the relevant door and cabin dimensions?
  • Are there heavy doors, thresholds or surface changes you should know about?
  • Can you reach dining areas, outdoor spaces and other facilities you plan to use?
  • How are after-hours arrival and emergency assistance handled?

Bathroom details

Ask for recent photographs and the dimensions relevant to you. Consider the doorway, turning space, toilet transfer side, shower access, fixed fittings and reachable controls. If you need a shower chair or other equipment, clarify the model, availability, dimensions and whether it can be reserved.

A handrail or step-free shower does not establish that a bathroom works for every person. If transfers or equipment use require an individual assessment, consult a suitably qualified professional who understands your needs. The property’s staff can describe the room but cannot make that clinical judgement.

Bed, furniture and daily routines

Ask about bed height and the space beside and under it when those details matter. Check which furniture can be moved and who will arrange this. Confirm reachable power points and safe charging arrangements with the property. If you will use hired equipment, coordinate delivery, setup and collection with both suppliers.

Think beyond sleeping: opening curtains, controlling lighting, using a kettle, reaching storage and contacting reception can all affect a stay. Ask about communication options, visual or audible alerts and other features relevant to you. Confirm whether the answers apply in your reserved room.

Make the booking clear

Send a short summary of the essential arrangements and ask the property to confirm it. Record the contact’s role, the room type and any agreed equipment or layout changes. Ask whether a booking made through a third-party platform will preserve those arrangements.

Read cancellation terms before committing and check again if your plans change. Our travel planning guide helps connect the room with transport and activities. A room photograph is useful evidence of its layout, but it should never replace current confirmation from the property.
