Accessible Australia
Accessibility Statement
The accessibility features built into Accessible Australia and the limits of our initial checks.
Designed for reading and navigation
The site uses semantic page landmarks, a skip-to-content link, descriptive links, labelled form fields and visible keyboard focus. The navigation uses buttons with expanded-state information for its submenus. Content is designed to reflow across smaller screens, and reduced-motion preferences are respected.
Using a keyboard
Use Tab and Shift+Tab to move through links and controls. Activate a menu button to show its links. Escape closes an open submenu and returns focus to its button; on a small screen, Escape can also close the main menu. The first navigation link lets you skip directly to the main content.
Reading preferences
You can use your browser’s zoom controls to enlarge text. Article layouts use a readable line length and do not require animation or an autoplaying video. Tables can be scrolled horizontally where their content needs more space. Images include text alternatives or are marked as decorative where appropriate.
Scope of testing
Initial checks cover page structure, keyboard menu behaviour, responsive layouts, text contrast and common HTML issues. This is not a claim of formal WCAG conformance or a substitute for testing with a range of people and assistive technologies. External websites and documents are controlled by their publishers and may behave differently.
Report a barrier
Visit our contact page for the current enquiry channel. Describe the page and task, what prevented you from completing it, and the browser or assistive technology involved if you are comfortable sharing that. Please avoid including sensitive personal information.
